If you are travelling to another place for leisure or business, you would probably need to stay in a hotel for a night or two. However, just because the establishment has various means of security does not mean you are absolutely safe. Indeed, you have to keep these security tips in mind.
First, keep your door locked at all times. Do not rely on the doorknob's locking mechanism alone. Thus, be sure that you turn the deadbolt and fasten the security chain. In addition, do not just open the door if someone knocks on it. Instead, peep through the security viewport, if your room has one, to see who is at the door. If there is no viewport in your room, call the front desk to have someone check outside your room.
Next, if you do not want to be seen from the outside or if you are leaving your room, make sure the blinds are closed. Many hotels have blinds that allow you to see outside while preventing people from viewing you inside. If you find the blinds difficult to open or close, ask for assistance from the hotel staff. Next, for added protection, it would be a good idea to purchase a portable alarm system that you can hang on your room's doorknob while you are asleep.
Finally, do not leave your credit cards, cash, jewellery, money, keys, electronic gadgets, and other items of value on your room's desk, bed, or drawer. They might be stolen if a crafty thief breaks in. Instead, place these valuable items inside the safe provided in the room. If no safe is available, give them to the front desk for safekeeping.
