Not too many people know that window blinds have possibly been a part of our world for hundreds of years. There have been archaeological findings that strongly suggest that blinds were already being used since the age of exploration. One of these evidences was the tilting window blind, which was believed to have used cord ties or a pulley system to manipulate the lowering and raising of the louvres.
From the wooden tilting window blind, technology has produced many more different kinds of models from different materials over the decades. As the number of consumers grew and as technology developed, the issue of privacy and comfort in homes became a bigger concern among manufacturers of industrial businesses. More suppliers tried to make blinds that were easier to operate. Thus, in 1946, equipment used to produce aluminium slats that are lightweight became available, leading to a new look in blinds. In 1966, the pulley mechanism for adjusting window blinds was invented. The 1970s brought about the mini-blinds, a version of the Venetian blind, which was made with cords inside the window so you could raise or lower the slats by pulling the strings. You could close and open them using a rod that you would rotate. This manipulation method was called as the wand tilter actuation mechanism. As the industrial age continued to bloom, more machines were able to make window blinds from different materials, such as PVC, plastic, vinyl, and fabric.
Nowadays there are even electrically manipulated blinds, as well as those that are controlled through a remote. As technology progresses, the mechanisms and make of window blinds also continue to evolve according to the demands of the market and the times.
