Cheap Wooden Venetian Blinds

Cheap wooden blinds have seen an explosion in popularity over the last few years due to changing fashions and a new trend in “cut down” rather than “made to measure” wood blinds.

Traditionally, your wooden venetian blinds would be made to the size of the window, which means there is a lot of manual labour and also a lot of waste as each slat (a real piece of wood) would have to be cut to size.

With cut down wood blinds, several of the same size are manufactured, enabling much more automation in the process, less waste and also lots of time saved as nothing has to be cut to unique sizes.

These blinds can then be packaged and shipped to the UK on mass (most are made in China) to be sent out to specialist suppliers who then take your actual window measurements and then reach for the nearest size blind.  The blind is then cut to the actual width needed.

The drop of the blind is also adjusted.  The cords that hold each slat (the ladder) is left overly long on each blind, so that extra slats can be added if required.  Spare slats can be removed and stored for blinds that need to be made longer.  The blind is then repackaged and sent to the customer.

Don’t be fooled into thinking these blinds are of a lower quality – the wood used is exactly the same, and the blind you receive is actually hand finished – you only save money.

To the trained eye, it could be noticed that there is a different width between the end of the blind and the support cords which make the blind raise and lower.  In a manufactured from scratch blind the cords that support the weight would usually be spaced out evenly over the blind.  This is not usually noticed  - but we point it out here in the interest of customer service.

The only other issue is perhaps the choice of colours.  Cheap wooden venetian blinds come in the most popular colours.  If you have a specific need, then you may have to go down the true made to measure route, just give us a call and we can accommodate you.
